    Mail Archiver FAQ

What type of server should I install Exclaimer Mail Archiver on?

You can install Exclaimer Mail Archiver on an Exchange server or any another Microsoft Windows server, as long as the Exchange management tools are installed if it is not an Exchange server. For more information see the system requirements section on our website http://www.exclaimer.com/mailarchiver-systemrequirements.aspx.

Can Exclaimer Mail Archiver run on the MSDE version of SQL?

Exclaimer Mail Archiver is not compatible with the MSDE version of SQL. However, it is compatible with Microsoft SQL Express with Advanced Services (for evaluation purposes only) which is available as a free download from Microsoft. You can download Microsoft SQL Express with Advanced Services here:

    SQL Express 2005
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/

As Microsoft SQL Express with Advanced services has a database limit of 4GB, we recommend you use the rollover feature in Exclaimer Mail Archiver to accommodate this limit.

Does the Archiver rollover allow you to search all the databases?

Yes, each database is referenced in the Config database. When you connect to the instance name, the Archiver search will automatically search over all the databases.

Does Exclaimer Mail Archiver modify Exchange and the Active Directory?

Exclaimer Mail Archiver will create a mailbox; however, this is the only change to Exchange. It will also create a new OU in your Active Directory. It creates an Exclaimer Email Archiver service account (which the mailbox belongs to) and two groups, ‘Exclaimer Email Archiver Administrators’ and ‘Exclaimer Email Archiver Users’.

Why can I only search my email messages when I have added my account to the Exclaimer Email Archiver Administrators group?

You need to specify the permissions separately via the Exclaimer Email Archive Search application. By default you can only view your own messages, however, you can change this using Tools > User Permissions option which is only available to users that belong to the Exclaimer Email Archiver Administrators group. This is where you can grant permission to view other users’ messages.
