Help,

I'm trying to upgrade Exclaimer, but when I go through the process, it keeps complaining that there are programs using it and to shut them down. I've rebooted the server twice now and tried to uninstall, but it won't let me.

Please can you help?

Hi

During normal operation, the core exclaimer file (exclaimer.dll) is loaded by a whole bunch of Windows components depending on the configuration of your operating system and when exclaimer.dll is loaded, it can't be uninstalled.

The uninstall process closes down IIS, which is the process that loads the exclaimer dll in normal operation for mail processing, but other processes can hold it locked and this is what is happening to you.

There is a knowledge base article on solving problems around uninstall at the following link. Let me know how you get on.

Hi Chris

I followed all the steps outlined in the article but I still can't get Exclaimer to uninstall. Is there anything else that I can do? I'm really keen to upgrade the product as the new version has some key enhancements for me and not being able to uninstall the product is kind of frustrating.

Hi

If you have exhausted all the suggestions in the KB article then please do the following:

Use the registry editor to remove the following value from the registry.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Exclaimer Ltd\eXclaimer\ControlFilePath

When you have removed the value, run the uninstall again and then you ABSOLUTELY MUST REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER. Failure to perform this step before doing a subsequent install can cause the new install of Exclaimer to not work correctly.
