Well you can tell I think Tolkien was a genious.  The characters he created with such detail that they become real people with a full history and future.

 I hope there are more tolkien and middle earth fans out there, it is tradition to read the series at once every two years for me.

I have read the Tolkiens, but found the over description of hte different races a little annoying. I come from a Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weis / warhammer / AD&D background prior to Tolkien so wanted to just read the action and not what makes a dwarf... But having said that it is a very good book, and indeed amazing that they managed to encapsulate every single character without any problems.

Have you read Robert Jordan? He has a rather amazing style and like Tolkien his characters grow with the books. The series is called Wheel of time.

  thanks I guess Robert goes on my book list.  I am currently awaiting the new relesases of the Inheritance trilogy and Harry Potter,( i know its a kids story but the story lines have grown with the popularity).

So while I am waiting I guess I will start the Wheel of Time,  is it a long series?

some 13 books I think around 700 pages each.... so yeah long one. Oh if I can give you 2 pieces of advice, 1) keep a note book, you'll need it, 2) once you start, DON'T STOP! the story is very intricate (Tolkien is very simple next to this guy!!). I started reading them while he was still writting them, got to book 6, stopped waited for book 7, read that, then re-read everything to actually understand it, did the same with book 8, gave up and now going to start the whole series since they are all around now!!!

 I used to like Harry potter, but got really turned off on the phoenix one. The story line seems to be glued together, and not correctly either. The whole thing read as if it was written, then put down, then written several months later without being re-read first etc... The characters are stagnant and really not well worked (in my opinion).

I think that I'll read the inheritance trilogy as it seems interesting, and it would be nice to see what happens....

  On the Potter series, I will agree on the characters,  I find myself more interested with the going's on of Hogwarts and my character dumbledor of course you know what happens in Half-Blood Prince.

Harry is just not well developed, and he lacks a certain motivation, you would think he would try and learn more with the expectations resting on him.

Exactly! under-developped un-realistic child is what I think he is. Most of the time it is by accident that he succeeds, no skill / forward thinking, and rather flat character.

I like Peeves and mad eye moody, but again, they are monotone.

I do know what has happened, but still refuse to read the rest of the book.

it's like the follow up series from Robin Hobb, Fool's errand, she killed off my favorite character so I put the book down and have not read it since!! However I strongly recomend the Farseer Trilogy. it is brilliant!
