Tongue Tied [:S] read receipts :(

    Hi
I have just installed the mail archiver and everthing is working well, but i am getting complaints from some users that they are reciving read receipts saying that their email has been deleted without being viewed.

Now i thing i understand why they are getting this, as the emails are copyed and then deleted from the exclaimer mail box as soon as they have been moved over to the sql database.

Is there anything i can do to stop this?  I know by the nature of how the archiving is working that its just a 'feature' of the system and how read recepits work, but could i exclude them from entering the exclaimer mailbox? or are there any other options?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thnaks

I am in the same position here. Everything else seems to work fine and is very easy to use, but I can see no obvious way to stop the message saying that the email has been deleted without reading it.

I can't see that this is acceptable and there must be a way to turn this off.

    Any ideas anybvody???

    Re: read receipts :(

    HI,

We have tracked this issue down. It is down to the type of Exchange journaling that you are using. When going through the Wizard we attempt to employ the Envelop journaling that traps this type of information, but if the version that is installed does not support it, or BCC journaling is enabled. we use the basic one that does not trap al this information.

This is the link to the explanations from Microsoft, and what needs to be done to upgrade / enable the journaling. The version are Exchange 2k SP3 and above, or Exchange 2k3 SP1 and above.

Further to this, log into the archiver account using outlook (you will need to grant yourself the rights to view amend etc..) and you should a common name entry for the emails. This looks like a long long name with CN= in it. This is to ensure that the envelope journalign is correctly enabled.

    Regards

    Richard

    Re: read receipts :(

Well i have checked and it appears i am allready running envelope journaling, when i ran the exejcfg file it said it was allready enabled and when i manually checked the heuristics value it was allready at 512.

Yet we are still getting errors on the read recipts.

Is there something i am missing?

    Re: read receipts :(

Exchange Envelope journaling creates a new message and attaches the journaled message to it. This 'carrier' message is a brand spanking new message, which nobody requested a read receipt on - therefore, Envelope Journaling should avoid this problem.

To establish whether you have Envelope Journaling operating correctly in your environment, take a look at the messages that are turning up in the archiver mailbox - You'll need to suspend the archiving task to do this, otherwise they'll disappear a bit quick.

If envelope journaling is working, you'll see mails with a single embedded message attachment and a body that contains the envelope recipients in a format similar to Internet mail headers.

    Re: read receipts :(

I'm having the same issue and will try the MS utility to see if that helps.
