SYMPTOMS

Microsoft KB article 840013 implicates Exclaimer in problems during online backup which are bugs in Exchange and recommends removing Exclaimer.

CAUSE

A transport bug in Exchange 2000 Server may cause streaming database (.stm) file corruption. Reproduction of this bug is difficult. However, this bug typically involves either applications that use Distributed Authoring Version (DAV) to submit mail or applications that use transport sinks such as Exclaimer. You receive error -613 : JET_errSLVReadVerifyFailure when you perform online backups.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, either:

• obtain the September 2003 Exchange 2000 Server Post-Service Pack 3 (SP3) Rollup 824282
• or, apply hotfix 814891 - Error -613 Occurs When You Perform an Online Backup
